Many of my fans frequently draw vocal comparisons between myself and the legendary Joe Longthorne, a compliment I deeply cherish yet find challenging to fully embrace.
While I don’t mimic his vocal impressions or possess his iconic blonde hair, his musical influence has been ingrained within me through years of immersing myself in his music.
Presenting a one-hour show titled “It’s Only Make Believe,” I pay tribute to Joe by performing songs spanning his entire career – from his earliest performances to his final acts – all backed by top-notch tracks.
A whole hour of songs spanning right back to when Joe first started performing right up until the very end performed to backing tracks of the highest standard.
The show features an array of classics including “Somewhere,” “If I Only Had Time,” “Say It with Flowers,” “If He Loves Me,” “Almost Like A Song,” “As I Love You,” “You’re the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me,” “You Will Be My Music,” “If I Never Sing Another Song,” and many more.
While Joe Longthorne is an irreplaceable icon, I believe he deserves to be remembered. I strive to uphold his legacy by presenting this honorable show, intending to keep his name alive for as long as I can.
MBE Joe Longthorne was honored with a knighthood by Prince Charles during the 2012 birthday honors for his charitable endeavors. Born Joseph Patrick Daniel Longthorne on May 31, 1955, in Hull, he made Blackpool his home and became a household name there.
Renowned for his powerful vocals and remarkable impressions of Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, and more, Joe gained fame in 1981 after appearing on the London Weekend Television series, “Search for a Star.” His success led to sold-out performances at prestigious venues like the London Palladium, Sydney Opera House, and Royal Albert Hall.
Throughout his life, Joe battled serious illness but continued performing for his devoted fans. Sadly, on August 3, 2019, he succumbed to Lymphoma, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate.
